Present Context

The workspace is, without a doubt, the place that requires all of our attention. It is the place where we spend most of our time and, therefore, the one that has a positive or negative influence on us.

These spaces have changed considerably over the last 50 years, and so have its users. As a result of multiple global and local factors, people have changed the way they relate to each other and how they do things.

The notion of “The Healing Office” was born from the need to think about the future of workspaces.

Nowadays, we live in an environment of hyper-connectivity and speed, which has led us to burnout levels never seen before. We tend to believe that we are well. However, a quick look around us will show us signs of the contrary.

Today we are experiencing a real health crisis product of the way we live and work. We spend 90% of our time indoors, and most of that percentage, inside “The Office.”

Threats

We spend 90% of our lives indoors. Evolutionarily speaking, this is not befitting. Indoor spaces are making us sick. They are the cause of various disorders, phobias, and stress.

1 in 17 workers suffer from “Burnout,” and billions of dollars are spent each year due to stress-related medical leaves. These facts should give us an idea of the pandemic we are facing.

The financial costs resulting from absence leaves are excessive and directly or indirectly counterproductive to all actors, companies, and people.

The now well-known “Burnout” is a syndrome caused by extreme work stress. It can manifest itself in different ways, from lack of energy and irritability to a full collapse of the affected individual. This syndrome affects the individual both physically and emotionally.

Burnout has been declared by the WHO as the fifth most important world pandemic.

Hence the need to create a new generation of offices. A new generation of offices that actively heals its users, beyond energy efficiency, comfort, and prevention.
